Shifter Draft Complete

On July 21, 2020, I started the draft of my Doberman Shifter book. Yesterday, on January 23, 2021, I finished it. You know, I don’t even remember starting it in July. Looking through the files it seems like I started it in July, rewrote the chapter in September, and then the draft really didn’t fully take off until late October. There were obviously a lot of breaks in between then and now, but this is the first time I’ve completely written a novel all by myself, and I have to say, it feels really freakin’ good.

I will admit, I didn’t do it entirely alone. When I would get stuck on how to appropriately move the plot forward, Amber was there to help me through it. One of her ideas I instantly fell in love with and I think you readers will love it too. The ending of this book especially needed a lot of thinking. I do still wonder if I made the right choice with the ending but I’m going to leave that decision for when we start editing.

There were times when I honestly wanted to scrap this book. I went through a phase when nothing I wrote sounded good. I kept reading over my previous chapters and thinking they were absolute crap. But Amber keep reassuring me it was all in my head. She helped push me forward, and I couldn’t ask for a better friend and co-author. It’s because of her that I kept going.

My mom was also there for me every step of the way, with not only encouragement but just lending an ear. I always kept her updated on how my chapters were coming along, and she never failed to listen to my many rants.

I can’t say how this book will do when it’s released, but it was very fun to write. I instantly fell in love with my lead male character, Kayden. He has such a fun personality, especially when paired with his best friend, Liam. Kayden is tough and serious, where as Liam is the complete opposite. The two made for a lot of laughs.

Brielle is my lead female. She reminds me a lot of another character of mine, but she’s a bit more promiscuous. A sweet girl with a love for bad boys that unfortunately lands her in trouble. She comes paired with her best friend, Jill, who is loud mouthed and sassy. Jill’s never afraid to speak her mind, which sometimes puts Brielle into embarrassing situations.

And of course, it was really awesome to turn my dogs into book characters. My precious Mina is the lead of my gang of robbers, and she takes a good chunk of the spotlight. Lola and Nori are also part of the gang, and I hope to develop them further in later books. I even had a little surprise character pop up towards the end, who is loosely based on another one of my dogs.

There are a lot of fun characters and situations in this book, and I hope you readers enjoy reading them as much as I did bringing them to life. I’ll leave you with a brief description of the book. This will be the second book in our shifter series, written as a standalone. Look forward to it coming out later this year!

Dog shifter, Kayden, is used to pretending to be someone’s pet. His gang takes turns being adopted out as pets only to turn around and rob their owners when they least expect it. But when the gang leader, Mina, sets her sights on robbing a bank, Kayden has to undergo his toughest undercover job yet. Because, Brielle, the bank manager’s daughter is hot. When he realizes he’s falling for her, he has to make a choice. Rob the bank and break her heart, or back out and lose his chance at the kind of money that will last a lifetime.
