Prologue – Part Four

Luka

The big day was here. The day of the wedding. And while Luka should be excited for his best friend, all he could really think about was his time with Aria in that dressing room yesterday.

That wasn’t the first time he had sex in public. He’d always been a dog. He loved the ladies, he loved sex, and he’d take it anywhere he could get it. But there was always a thrill, knowing he was doing it in public, knowing he could get caught. He sure thought they might get caught yesterday, with all the noise she was making!

Luckily, he was able to keep her quiet enough, and when it was all over and done with, he felt like a different man. Fucking her was everything he imagined it would be and more. Was that the best hook up he ever had? Maybe. It sure as hell felt like it.

Afterward, he couldn’t wipe the grin from his face. It was so obvious that Grace even commented on it, much to his amusement and much to Aria’s horror. The girl turned almost as red as a beet! Lucky for Aria, Grace was clueless as to what happened. Getting away with it only made the whole experience better.

Aria could blush all she wanted, but he knew she felt better. She’d been totally stressed over that veil, and he found the best way to relieve that stress, hadn’t he? He actually hadn’t been sure if she’d go along with the idea. He thought it was worth a shot.

Damn, was he glad he was a betting man.

If only Aria had let them have an encore when he invited her to stay the night at his house. She declined, but it was hard to be disappointed when he still had the memory of that dressing room keeping him company.

And now, here he was, dressed in a navy blue suit, standing beside his best friend, who was about to be married to the love of his life.

This was only the second time Luka had worn a suit in his lifetime. The first time was when he was 9. For his grandma’s funeral. At least this time, it was a happier occasion.

He really wasn’t the dressy type. He didn’t even wear a suit to prom. He felt weird wearing one now, but he had to admit, he did look pretty damn good. Like James Bond. He even managed to tame down his wild hair. It was swept back, and his short beard was freshly trimmed.

“Are you nervous?” he asked Burley.

“Naw,” came Burley’s reply. Luka gave him a skeptical look, and Burley faltered. “Alright. Maybe a little.”

Luka chuckled. “Ain’t no shame in that. Anyone would be, man. But you know I’m happy for you, right?”

“I do know it, and I really appreciate ya being my best man.” Burley smiled.

“Of course. I’m honored to be here with ya, man. Maybe next time, it’ll be me, waiting here at the altar.”

That caused Burley to laugh. A big, hearty laugh. “That’ll be the day, won’t it?”

“What? You don’t think I’ll ever get married?” Luka asked, trying to look offended, but the grin on his lips made that impossible. He knew Burley was right. Marriage was not in the cards for him any time soon.

“Ya know what? I know you’re jokin’ now, Luka, but if it can happen for me of all people, I know it can happen for you too.”

Luka opened his mouth to say something back to his friend, but before he got the chance, music began playing. The wedding was about to start.

The two of them quickly went quiet, as the bridesmaids began walking down the aisle. They were all dressed in elegant peach colored dresses. His eyes drifted past the two in the front, falling on the one in the back. Aria.

She looked flawless. Every strand of her wavy black hair was perfectly in place. Her makeup looked professionally done. The peach color of the dress matched well with her naturally bronzed skin. The dress hugged her in all the right places, accenting her deliciously curvy hips.

He couldn’t take his eyes off of her as she approached, and when she passed by him, he gave her the biggest, cheesiest grin. It wasn’t purposeful. She was just so damn gorgeous.

“Is there somethin’ you need to tell me?” came Burley’s voice, snapping him out of his trance.

“What?” he replied, but wasn’t able to hide the mischievous twinkle in his eye. He hadn’t told Burley about his time in the dressing room with Aria. His friend had been occupied, getting prepared for the wedding, and there wasn’t time for them to have a casual chat between guys.

Burley didn’t say anything back to him. The look on his face and the way he shook his head, made it obvious he was suspicious.

Luka looked back to the bridesmaids, particularly at Aria. She was holding a lovely bouquet of flowers. Her nails were manicured, looking as perfect as the rest of her. He had never met a girl that was so high maintenance. He was the complete opposite. It took an occasion like his best friend’s wedding to get him into something formal and fancy looking.

He gave Aria a wink, which she rolled her eyes at, then the traditional “Here Comes the Bride” began to play.

Luka stood there quietly as Dove rode down the aisle, looking elegant as ever on that white horse that matched her white dress. The veil that Aria worried about had been revised just as Grace promised, and it was now a hair piece instead of a headband. Luka thought Dove would have looked pretty either way, but wasn’t particular about that kind of stuff the way that women were.

He remained in his place as Burley helped Dove off of the horse, and soon after that, the priest began speaking.

He set his lust for the maid of honor aside, and focused on his friend, as Burley exchanged vows with Dove. When Burley turned to him, he pulled the ring from his pocket and passed it over.

The whole thing went perfectly, and he felt both proud and happy for the couple, as they shared their first kiss as husband and wife.

He patted his hand on the back of Burley’s shoulder after the couple raised their joined hands. If anyone deserved this kind of happiness, it was Burley. The guy had been through a lot. A lot of pain, a lot of sorrow. He had been shunned by the town. He had felt like he lost any chance at happiness. And look at him now. All it took was the love of a good woman, and now he was on top of the world.

Luka watched the two of them climb onto the horse and ride off into the sunset, like some kind of fairy tale or one of those rom com movies that girls liked.

Turning to Aria, his mind instantly went back in the gutter. He thought about yesterday, and about the conversation he just had with Burley.

“Are we gonna tell them?” he said, stepping closer to Aria. She didn’t seem to be on the same page as him. She was sniffling and wiping a tear from her cheek. Probably trying not to mess up her makeup. Why did girls always get emotional during weddings?

“There’s nothing to tell,” she said, after pulling herself together.

Luka gave her an incredulous look. Nothing to tell? That dressing room sure would say differently.

“You sure about that?” he asked.

Aria let out a scoff. “Totally. I go back to New York in the morning.”

Luka felt a little surprised by that remark. So that’s how it was going to be? Just a random fling and then goodbye?

“If you give me a chance, I bet I can talk you into sticking around,” he said in a suggestive tone, a lustful look in his eye.

Aria laughed lightly and shook her head. Without another word, she started down the aisle, the other two bridesmaids following after her.

Luka stood there, watching her go. Honestly, if it was just a fling she wanted, hell, he was happy to have that. Their time together had been heated, and electric, and he certainly wasn’t going to forget it anytime soon.

But as she walked farther away from him, he couldn’t help this feeling that he should go after her. That maybe he really could talk her into staying. Maybe it could turn into something more than just a fling…?

Nah.

Maybe Burley found himself a city girl, but what were the odds that Luka would find one too? It was better to let her go. A high-class city girl like Aria, and a country bumpkin like him, they couldn’t be more opposite. It would never work. Even he was smart enough to see that.
