Attending a Book Signing

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of meeting author Dawn Wright at her book signing. I’ve met authors before at conventions, but this was the first time I’ve attended a book signing event.

I was both curious and nervous. It was similar to the first time D and I attended our first convention, all those years ago. It’s simply intimidating when you don’t know what exactly to expect. But let me tell you, it turned out I had no reason at all to be afraid!

The atmosphere was so casual, and Dawn was so friendly. She immediately made me feel at ease. I ended up staying and chatting with her for two hours! Or I should say she stayed for two hours, because I got there near the end of her signing but she stayed longer when we got to talking. (I’m late to everything, I’m sorry!)

She was just so easy to talk to. We had met previously on Instagram, but it was meeting her in person that made me truly feel like I’ve made a new friend.

Not only was she very nice, we seemed to have a lot of similar opinions about the romance genre, and she offered me some great advice about publishing and marketing. Coming from an author who already has an entire trilogy under her belt, I really appreciated what she had to say to me. Little ol’ me, ha.

Dawn proposed that we have a joint book signing after The Cabin Girl is released, and that idea excites me to no end! I also hope to catch more of her solo book signings, to visit with her again and to support this talented author.

The book signing was for her series, The Capital Trilogy, and it was to promote her new spin-off that came out just this week.

I’m currently reading through the first book in the trilogy. It’s a story that follows four friends who live in DC, our nation’s capital, hence the clever title Capital Encounters. The four women have vastly different takes on life, which gives each of them an interesting story to tell. I love how it’s about a group of friends, and it’s cool that it’s set in a place I’m familiar with, as I live in DC’s neighbor Maryland. It’s sexy, it’s fun, and there’s plenty of humor!
