Heart's Peak Book Two
mistake [ mi-steyk ]
noun
An error in judgment caused by poor reasoning.
A mistake can change your life, but sometimes... it can also be a blessing in disguise.
From the day she was born, Aria Vargas had everything handed to her on a silver platter. A prim and proper city girl, she never has a hair out of place and her clothes are always of the best fashion. When she goes to Heart’s Peak, Colorado for her best friend’s wedding, she dreams of finding a love of her own. Instead, she gets a dirty fling with rough and tumble country boy, Luka. A mistake that will change her life forever. Now she’s pregnant, and she doesn’t even know Luka’s last name.
Man slut. Another name for Luka Ubersechs. Lust and sex come hand in hand, but love? Love is never in the equation. With messy hair, holes in his jeans, and a love for the demolition derby, Luka is the complete opposite of Aria. That didn’t stop them from hooking up before the wedding. A steamy and spontaneous public hook up that left him craving more. When she goes back home, she makes it clear she wants nothing more to do with him, but mistakes have a way of coming back to you.
Complete strangers now set on a path to parenthood, they have to figure out if everything happens for a reason, or if this is just their latest mistake.
Stephanie on Amazon wrote:I was so ready for a revisit to Heart’s Peak Colorado! Burley’s house is now occupied by his best friend, Luka. The new city-fied firecracker in town is Aria. As maid of honor, she has a long checklist of things to accomplish. As Luka chauffeurs Aria about in his Cherokee, things quickly begin to heat up. Back at home, in the city, the depth of her “mistake” comes into focus. High maintenance Aria packs three suitcases, and returns to Colorado to sort things out.
The romance was fun, with great dialogue. The friendships shown also make for a great read, too. One of my favorite romance novels is, “One Day in December” by Josie Silver, because of the love between good friends. And “My Latest Mistake” has some of that Bestie power in it, too. Not just between Dove and Aria, but also between Luka and his niece, Juneberry, a nice unexpected relationship. If you did not read the first book in this series, you don’t need to do so before jumping into this romance. But you still might want to!
D M on Amazon wrote:Oh my goodness, where to even begin!? This book had me hooked right from the start. I've loved everything from this author so far, so I was excited to read the second book in the Heart's Peak series. It didn't disappoint.
The story revolves around Aria, who is a through and through city girl and Luka, who is a down-home country boy. After a quick tryst together, Aria winds up pregnant and decides to go back to Heart's Peak to figure out what it is that she wants. Her character will drive you insane at times with how back and forth she is, BUT isn't that how most pregnant women are? And Luka...oh Luka. This country boy will have you swooning with his charm and humor.
The book takes you on a wild ride as these two fall in love. It will make you laugh as well as feeling ALL the feels when things get hard for them.
I'm a sucker for a good small-town romance, but this one just stood out because of its charm and realness. Can't wait to see what's next in Heart's Peak!
Deborah on Goodreads wrote:This book kept me entertained from the start. There was parts where I actually laughed out loud. It is a romantic book but not with too much other noise to take away from the story. It told both views very well for the characters..The story was written very well.. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting a great read!!!! Plus it has a cute couple with great banter!!
Katya on Goodreads wrote:I enjoyed this book. It was the first for me from this author but it won’t be the last.
Got to admit I was really frustrated by both lead characters at different times and could quite as easily have slapped them both upside their heads. I loved the supporting characters in the book and wish they were in it more
I need to now go and get book one in the series. Back to front I know but hey ho. I need to get Dove and Burleys story
Lady and the Tramp. Sort of
Main characters:
Aria - a rich city girl coming to the countryside for the first time, says she likes to control everything, has a particular taste in men (and Luka is not it)
Luka - a countryside manwhore with messy hair and life, but caring and with a big heartThe story:
You cannot find two people more different than these two. They meet one day when Aria comes to see her best friend (Dove) getting married to Burley (Luka's best friend). So, they go running some last-minute errands and "make a mistake" (i.e. share a passionate time in the dressing room of a bridal shop) that changes their lives. What I didn't like:
1. for a person who claims to be sort of a control freak, Aria surely forgot she is one when she met Luka. Yes, the man is hot, but having sex with him the next day after you've met AND in a public place - is he this irresistible, really? Now, I understand, that this mistake is the beginning of everything, but at least could they have done it after the wedding being elated and happy for their friends like it normally happens.
2. the gazebo incident. I was really annoyed with Luka, because he knows the small-town life and how people are - so, being this irresponsible in relation to Aria and her reputation was just downright stupid and disrespectful.
What I liked:
1. the story. For me, it was an unusual twist that Aria got pregnant right away. So, it was interesting to follow the characters and how everything worked out for them.2. the structure. The story started with an unusual event, but then developed gradually and what's more important logically. Everything that happened was in its place and led to something in the future, with no random facts thrown in for no reason.
3. the crazy ex. I really anticipated Jolene's appearance. I was literally turning the pages (starting from the hoedown - gazebo events) and waiting for the things to just blow up. Her presence added some extra twist to the plot.
4. characters. I could easily picture any one of them in real life, they were written well, relatable, and brought different emotions. Although, I wish there were more details on Aria’s city friends (maybe a chapter on them partying in the city before Aria met Luka and why she liked them).
5. the ending. It was a little bit too sweet for my taste, but it did get tears of joy out of me, I must admit.
Having read this book, I realized that I would also love to read about Dove and Burley now, because, apparently, there is an interesting mystery in Burley’s life and I want to find out what it is.
Overall, a great love story. I enjoyed following Aria and Luka’s adventures and how they came to the most important realization and decision in their lives.
